Democratic Senate hopeful Elizabeth Warren, seeking to defeat Republican Senator Scott Brown of Massachusetts, is now ducking questions about her past proclamations of a Cherokee heritage, reports the
Boston Herald.
Senator Brown on Friday called on Harvard, which listed Warren as a Native American on its law school staff, to “correct the record” for listing her as Native American. Warren has claimed her minority status but has been unable to prove Cherokee ancestry, according to the Herald.
Warren’s campaign responded with a statement, which said she has addressed questions on the issue and that she is proud “of her family and her heritage, and it is something that her family talked about often when she was growing up. The fact that Elizabeth noted her heritage in a professional publication has been made public and addressed by Elizabeth on multiple occasions.”
Herald columnist Howie Carr, in a column on Friday, called out Warren for ducking tax payments. “For someone who wants to raise taxes on everybody, she certainly seems allergic to paying her own,” Carr wrote. “Refuses to pay at the voluntary higher state income tax rate, and now totally blows off the auto excise tax for five weeks now and counting. When we first checked with the city of Cambridge on Monday, she owed $68.12 in overdue excise taxes . . .I almost forgot, taxes are for the little people, not the Beautiful People.”
