Without saying his name, Wisconsin Gov. Scott Walker said he would support Donald Trump if he ends up as the Republican presidential nominee.
Walker said his support is more of an opposition to Hillary Clinton than support for Trump.
"I will support the Republican running against Hillary Clinton in the fall — whoever that is," Walker said at a press conference, the
Milwaukee Journal-Sentinel reports.
"To me, it's preferable to have a Republican nominee over Hillary Clinton," Walker said. "I think part of Bernie Sanders' support is because a lot of young voters, in particular, don't trust her."
When Walker was a presidential candidate, he vowed support for the eventual nominee, but then after he ended his candidacy, he endorsed Ted Cruz.
Trump has slammed Walker numerous times, according to the
Milwaukee Journal-Sentinel, including after Walker exited the race when Trump said, "we sent him packing like a little boy."
Walker is a Wisconsin delegate, and because Cruz won in his state of Wisconsin, the governor must vote for him as long as Cruz has the support of one-third of the floor vote, according to
Wisconsin Republican Party rules.
If either Cruz or Trump were below that one-third mark, Walker said in the report, "they would no longer seriously be in consideration."
