The media's tradition of not reporting election results until all polls close is being shaken up this year, Politico reports.

That's because some media companies are going "real time" in an effort to keep Americans up to speed on the minute-by-minute election numbers.

Slate and Vice News are working with Votecastr to provide fast-breaking updates on how the candidates are faring in each state.

Politico is partnering with Morning Consult to quiz voters after they cast their ballots. And BuzzFeed is partnering with Decision Desk HQ to get the results out quickly.

BuzzFeed editor Ben Smith told Politico he hopes the project provides “a clear window not just into who's winning, but also how journalists and analysts are making these calls.”
