Former Colorado GOP Chair Charged With Voter Fraud

ABC's Denver-7

The former chairman of the Colorado Republican Party who once said "virtually every case of voter fraud I can remember in my lifetime was committed by Democrats" has been charged with voter fraud.

Steve Curtis, now a conservative radio host, is accused of completing and mailing his ex-wife's ballot in the previous election, according to Fox News affiliate KDVR in Denver.

Curtis' ex-wife, Kelly Curtis, discovered her ballot was already delivered when she contacted her local elections office in October after moving to South Carolina to find out how to vote.

"I was just completely stunned," she said. "I thought there had to be some kind of mistake.

"It was demeaning and presumptuous, and I had no idea what would go on in someone's mind to cast my ballot for me illegally, actually to go to all the trouble to forge my ballot."

Weld County verification judges "compared her (ballot) signature just to the signatures on her registration," according to the county Clerk and Recorder Carly Koppes, who told KDVR judges quickly identified the signatures did not match, and the ballot had been sent from Mr. Curtis' house in Firestone, Colo.

Last October, Mr. Curtis said on his radio show on Aurora's KLZ-AM, in a segment titled "Voter Fraud and Other Democratic Misbehaviors," there is "something about being a Democrat" that makes people more likely to commit a crime.

The Colorado Secretary of State's Office told ABC affiliate Denver-7 this is the only case of voter fraud related to the 2016 election that has resulted in charges.
