The pre-teen dance group whose video performance at a Donald Trump rally in January went viral has sued the Republican nominee's campaign for not paying them.

The USA Freedom Kids, who performed at a Trump rally on Jan. 13 in Pensacola, Fla., has sued the campaign for $15,000 in damages in a Sarasota County court, The Daily Beast reports.

The group accused the campaign of not honoring oral agreements for performances at two subsequent events and for refusing to pay a $2,500 stipend for travel expenses.

"We are not able to pay the girls or cover travel," Stephanie Scruggs, a Trump regional field director, wrote Jeff Popick, USA Freedom Kids' founder whose daughter is a member of the group, in a Jan. 5 email included in the lawsuit.

"However, we have coordinated with the event space to allow the girls to set up a table and pre-sell their album, shirts … if this is helpful to you."

Popick agreed, telling the Daily Beast that he expected USA Freedom Kids to net more than $2,500 in merchandise sales.

However, the rally at the Pensacola Bay Center was "chaos," Popick said in an interview.
Secret Service officials barred the group from bringing their merchandise into the hall, the lawsuit said.

In fact, the group left their items in the parking lot — and all of them were stolen, Popick told the Daily Beast. The merchandise included T-shirts, CDs and patriotic posters, he said.

"This is not an opportunistic thing where we're suing Donald Trump," he told the Daily Beast. "We're not suing for emotional distress and all that other stuff that people do when they trump up — no pun intended — when they trump up a lawsuit.

"That's not what this is," Popick said. "This is tangible dollars I spent under false pretenses."

The Trump campaign did not respond to a request for comment, according to the Daily Beast.
