Trump: Dem Memo a 'Bust,' Confirms Actions That Were 'So Illegal'

Saturday, 24 February 2018 06:24 PM

President Donald Trump weighed in on the Democratic counter-memo on Saturday, saying it only confirmed what he deemed "all of the terrible things that were done."

Schiff fired back, also via Twitter:

Appearing Saturday night on Fox News Channel's "Justice with Judge Jeanine," Trump slammed Schiff, calling him a "bad guy" for leaving meetings and calling reporters with stories.

"You are not supposed to do that. It's probably illegal to do it," Trump said. "He'll have a committee meeting and leak all sorts of information."

The president reiterated to host Jeanine Pirro that the Democrats' memo served only to bolster his case.

"It was nothing but a confirmation," he said. "A lot of bad things happened on the other side — not on this side."

The FBI and Justice Department's actions were "really fraudulent and somebody should be looking into that," Trump said.

The president also predicted Republican Rep. Devin Nunes, who wrote the original Republican memo that alleged misconduct by the FBI and DOJ, eventually will be "greatly honored" for bringing the information to light.

"He has been very, very brave in the face of a lot of obstacles," Trump said.

The White House, meanwhile, said the Democratic memo rebutting GOP claims of surveillance abuses in the FBI's Russia investigation fails to answer serious questions.

White House press secretary Sarah Huckabee Sanders said questions raised by the GOP memo cover the use of partisan opposition research from one candidate as the basis for asking a federal court to approve surveillance of a former associate of a rival candidate.

Sanders said the Democratic memo is "politically driven."

She said nothing in the memo counters the fact, as the president has been insisting, that neither he nor his campaign ever colluded with a foreign power during the 2016 election.

The White House objected to its release Feb. 9, citing national security concerns. Democrats have since negotiated with the FBI on what material should be blacked out.
