A seniors group that received almost $16 million from the conservative Koch brothers is running ads that the billionaire siblings do not support.
The Koch-led Freedom Partners routinely spends millions to help conservative allies. But the umbrella organization does not have day-to-day say in those groups' tactics. That can lead to contradictory messages.
For example, the 60 Plus Association has an ad aimed at derailing a proposal to scrap mortgage giants Freddie Mac and Fannie Mae.
An official inside Freedom Partners says that is not a goal that Charles and David Koch share. The source insists on anonymity because he is not authorized to discuss private conversations.
A spokesman at 60 Plus Association says the group does not consult about ads with any of its donors, including Freedom Partners.
