Former U.S. Rep. Tom Tancredo has made it official — he's running for Colorado governor on the American Constitution Party ticket.
Tancredo made the announcement Thursday, capping a lead-up during which he switched his party affiliation from Republican and said he doesn't believe the two GOP candidates can defeat the Democrat in the race.
Tancredo has drawn the wrath of the state GOP chairman and spurred concern that his entry into the race will drain votes from the Republican candidate. That could hand the win in November to Democrat Mayor John Hickenlooper, who's running unopposed in the Aug. 10 primary.
Republicans Scott McInnis and Dan Maes have said they won't honor Tancredo's demand that they drop out of the race if polls show the winner of the primary is behind the Democrat.
