The White House said Tuesday that President Donald Trump's tweets are considered "official statements."
Press secretary Sean Spicer was asked about the president's social media habit and said Twitter is his best venue for getting his message out.
"He is the president of the United States, so they are considered official statements," Spicer said.
Spicer was also asked whether Trump's tweets sometimes go too far and become news themselves rather than the content contained in them.
"The president is the most effective messenger on his agenda, and I think his use of social media, he now has a collective total of close to 100 million, that gets him to the American people which is a very, very effective tool," Spicer said.
Trump's Twitter habit routinely makes headlines, as he is often criticized for saying too much or saying things that can be seen as controversial.
This week, Trump has posted several tweets trying to convince the courts to reinstate his temporary halt on travel from six countries with a terror presence in the wake of the terror attack in London over the weekend.
