Rudy Giuliani’s tweet claiming he conducted an investigation in 2016 into Ukrainian collusion and corruption establishes that President Donald Trump “committed an impeachable offense,” says George Conway.
"This tweet by itself establishes that @realDonaldTrump committed an impeachable offense. To say that Giuliani’s and Trump’s pursuit of “Ukrainian ... corruption” was “done solely” to protect Trump’s interests establishes that Trump was not acting for the country,” Conway, an attorney and husband of White House adviser Kellyanne Conway, tweeted Wednesday.
Giuliani earlier Wednesday tweeted in defense of his Ukraine work following the release of testimony from Bill Taylor, the top U.S. diplomat in Ukraine.
“The investigation I conducted concerning 2016 Ukrainian collusion and corruption, was done solely as a defense attorney to defend my client against false charges, that kept changing as one after another were disproven,” said Giuliani.
“The evidence, when revealed fully, will show that this present farce is as much a frame-up and hoax as Russian collusion, maybe worse, and will prove the President is innocent,” he added.
Taylor last month told Congress in closed-door testimony that Giuliani was pressing Ukraine to “intervene in U.S. domestic policy or politics” by launching investigations into Trump’s political rivals.
Taylor also testified that it was his “clear understanding” that aid to Ukraine would not be released unless Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskiy announced he would investigate Trump’s rivals.
"I think the origin of the idea to get President Zelenskiy to say out loud he's going to investigate Burisma and the 2016 election, I think the originator, the person who came up with that was Mr. Giuliani," Taylor said.
Democrats plan to start their first public hearing next week.
