Saying Saudi Arabia's security interests "undermine" U.S. security interests, Rep. Tulsi Gabbard, D-Hawaii, declared "Saudi Arabia is, in fact, not our ally" and we "should end our alliance" after the reported murder of Saudi dissident Jamal Khashoggi.
"So, as we look at this situation with the murder of this journalist, this is yet one more reason why we should end our alliance with Saudi Arabia and stop supporting this genocidal war they are waging in Yemen," Gabbard told Fox News on Saturday.
When asked whether she believes the Saudis' take on Khashoggi's demise.
"Which one? There has been so many different versions that have come from the Saudis on what happened," Gabbard said. "I think really as we look through this we have to challenge the bigger question here that is being posed to the president, his administration, and leaders in Congress, which is: Saudi Arabia is, in fact, not our ally."
Gabbard added "we can hardly call them a friend – we've got to get better friends, if that's the case, friends whose interests actually align with ours."
She also rebuked President Donald Trump's reluctance to act against Saudi Arabia because of a potential $110 billion arms deal.
"President Trump is unfortunately acting like a businessman without a conscience, who's willing to make the deal no matter what the cost," she said.
After calling for new leaders to stand up against Saudi Arabia, Rep. Gabbard declined to declare an intention to run for the White House against President Trump in 2020.
