Trump Shows Support for Tucker Carlson in Dispute With Rep. Omar

(Fox News' "Tucker Carlson Tonight")

By    |   Wednesday, 10 July 2019 01:18 PM EDT

President Donald Trump appeared to back Tucker Carlson in the Fox News host's ongoing dispute with Rep. Ilhan Omar, D-Minn.

Carlson had called the Somali-American congresswoman proof immigration laws are "dangerous."

"Ilhan Omar has an awful lot to be grateful for, but she isn't grateful," he said on his show Tuesday night. "Not at all. After everything America has done for Omar and her family, she hates this country more than ever. Ilhan Omar is living proof that the way we practice immigration has become dangerous to this country. A system designed to strengthen America is instead undermining it. Some of the very people we try hardest to help have come to hate us passionately."

But Omar fired back Wednesday in a tweet. She wrote:

"Not gonna lie, it's kinda fun watching a racist fool like this weeping about my presence in Congress No lies will stamp out my love for this country or my resolve to make our union more perfect. They will just have to get used to calling me Congresswoman"

Trump chimed in by retweeting a Twitter post from radio host Mark Levin.

Levin wrote: "Once again, CNN comes to the defense of rabid anti-Semite Ilhan Omar."

Levin linked to a Mediaite story, which noted CNN host John Berman had said many believe what Carlson said was a "flat-out racist comment."

Fox News Senior Executive Producer Justin Wells in a statement to Newsmax said: “Anyone who values democracy and free expression should be gravely concerned when members of Congress demand that their critics be silenced. Tucker will address this on tonight’s show.”
