Donald Trump took a shot at the White House's announcement Thursday that it will raise the height of the fence around its perimeter in an effort to keep fence jumpers out of the area.

Trump said on his Facebook account that President Barack Obama understood the need for "strong, tall, beautiful walls." He was apparently making a reference to his frequent call to build a wall on the Mexican-U.S. border.

Secret Service official Tom Dougherty said in a briefing that the fence is "entirely scale-able," NBC's Washington News-4 reports.

"The current fence is simply not adequate for a modern era," Dougherty said.

The fence will be raised from six feet to 11 feet, and "anti-climb features" will be added. Taller gates and 1 and three-quarter-inch pickets will be added to the grounds. Tiny "pencil-point" spikes were added to the fence in 2015.

The National Park Service is helping in the planning for the fence. A timeline for the improvements is not yet set, according to the briefing.

The most recent incident at the White House fence was April 27, when someone threw "personal belongings" over the north fence line, according to the Associated Press.

The White House was put on lockdown. The Secret Service did not identify the person taken into custody, the Associated Press reports.
