President Donald Trump nominates Mary Neumayr to lead the Council on Environmental Quality, the White House council that coordinates energy and environmental policy, EENews.net reported.

Neumayr's supporters say she will be key to reforming environmental laws that are holding back economic growth, The Daily Caller reported.

"Mary is a strong conservative with all the expertise and experience necessary to implement President Trump's ambitious agenda to reform National Environmental Policy Act (NEPA) permitting," said Myron Ebell, former Trump transition team leader, The Daily Caller reported.

"Fixing the broken NEPA is a big challenge, and Mary Neumayr is a good choice to take it on," Ebell added.

Neumayr has been chief of staff on the Council on Environmental Quality since March 2017, and was senior counsel for the House Committee on Energy and Commerce from 2011 to 2017, The Daily Caller reported.

Her nomination comes after the White House removed its nomination of Kathleen Hartnett.

In December, the full Senate declined to consider her nomination after Republicans questioned her qualifications.
