Donald Trump's campaign has fired its Virginia state chairman for taking part in an angry protest outside Republican National Committee headquarters, where he blasted its members as "establishment pukes."
Corey Stewart is "being replaced, effective immediately," Trump deputy campaign manager David Bossie said in a statement tweeted Monday.
"Corey made this decision when he staged a stunt in front of the RNC without the knowledge or the approval of the Trump campaign," the statement read.
ABC7 in Washington reporter Jeff Goldberg tweeted his video of Stewart criticizing "RNC establishment pukes" – and accusing the committee of "diverting" funds that Trump raised.
A number of rally-goers and reporters also posted images and videos from the event:
In her own statement, Trump campaign manager Kellyanne Conway said: "We have a tremendous working relationship with the RNC. Chairman Reince Priebus has been an engaged and incredibly supportive ally to Mr. Trump throughout the campaign," the Washington Post reported.
The protest came the same day Priebus reportedly told committee members "nothing has changed in regard with our relationship" with the GOP nominee in the wake of a damaging 2005 video of the nominee using sexually aggressive language about women.
