President Donald Trump told supporters in Wisconsin that telephone rallies will be replacing his usual in-person campaign events until the coronavirus crisis “gets solved.”

The news came during what was described as Trump’s first “Tele-Rally,” CNN reported Saturday.

"I wanted to be with you, and this is really replacing our rallies that we all love so much,” Trump told supporters on the line, CNN reported.

“We had great rallies in Wisconsin and all over the country, and unfortunately until this gets solved, and we're doing really well with the therapeutics and vaccines, but until that gets solved it's going to be tough to have those big massive rallies.

“So I'm doing telephonic rallies, and we'll call them the Trump Rallies, but we'll do it by telephone and we have a lot of people on the line and I appreciate it," he said.

He also touted the administration's response to coronavirus, telling supporters on the line, "We've done a great job, gotten very little credit for it. They've given credit to other people, we've, who frankly had much less to do with it than we did,” CNN reported.

"Our testing program is the best in the world, we've tested almost 50 million people, and when you do that it's going to show more cases, and so we show more cases but it's still the right thing to do.”

The decision follows a Trump campaign rally in Tulsa, Okla., where turnout was low.

Another rally, scheduled for last weekend in Portsmouth, N.H., was canceled shortly before it was set to happen due to poor weather and hasn’t been rescheduled.

Nevertheless, neither the president nor his campaign have definitively ruled out more in-person campaign rallies, CNN reported.
