Donald Trump blasted New York City Mayor Bill de Blasio on Wednesday, saying, "He's one of the most incompetent men. He's the single worst mayor in the history of New York City," according to the
New York Post.
The presumptive Republican presidential nominee said that the city's residents are not happy with de Blasio, either. "He's letting a great deal go to hell. The city has a lot less spirit under him, including people that work for the city," Trump said.
"I deal with people that work for the city. They've lost their spirit. They're embarrassed by him as a mayor." Adding, that more people are homeless in the area, "which is sad for the people."
Trump claimed that political corruption in New York, his home state, is the worst in the nation. "I've been to every state and I don't see anything like this. What they have going on here is amazing, in terms of corruption."
De Blasio, who has been New York City's mayor since 2013, has been the subject of numerous investigations, with at least four of these inquiries involving fundraising, his election campaign or a nonprofit group connected with him, according to
The New York Times.
The nonprofit Campaign for One New York and de Blasio were cleared of charges over fundraising violations, the Times reports.
Trump's criticisms of the mayor got personal when the billionaire developer said de Blasio never thanked him for completing a long-delayed golf course in the Bronx.
"I never got a note of congratulations from this maniac," Trump said, according to the Post.
According to the Post,
Trump's golf course was more successful than other courses owned by the city and records show the real estate mogul made $3.8 million in greens fees since the course opened in April 2015.
