Donald Trump's campaign said Monday he will skip this week's spring conference of the Republican Jewish Coalition, an influential group on the political map.
Trump, the leading Republican candidate for president, gave a speech during the RJC's winter meeting in December. That appearance, however, was marred by some members of the audience
booing Trump after he didn't say whether or not Jerusalem should be the capital of Israel. Portions of his speech also had some trouble.
Texas Sen. Ted Cruz, Trump's main opponent in the race for the Republican presidential nomination, will attend this week's RJC event. Ohio Gov. John Kasich, the other candidate in the race, will not be there,
reports Politico.
The Venetian Hotel and Resort in Las Vegas will host the event. Sheldon Adelson owns the hotel and is one of the RJC's primary sources of funding. He's also on the group's board.
Politico reports the conference will start Thursday night with a dinner at Adelson's Las Vegas home.
In February, it was reported that Adelson and his wife
each donated $2,700 to the Cruz campaign. That is the maximum amount by law an individual can give to a campaign. At the time, however, Adelson said he had not yet officially endorsed anyone for president.
Some members of the RJC do not support Trump, while others have not announced their preferred candidate.
Trump is hoping to secure 1,237 delegate votes before this summer's convention in order to secure the nomination. If he falls short, the
presidential bid could be anyone's.
