Even though 51 percent of U.S. voters consider it unlikely that President-elect Donald Trump will ignore his corporation while he is in office, only 39 percent say he should be required to sell all of his businesses to avoid the possibility of conflict of interest, according to a Rasmussen Reports survey released on Tuesday.

Trump has announced that his two older children will run his businesses while he is in the White House, which falls well short of the definition of a blind trust into which other presidents have put their business interests.

Results of the poll show:

  • Forty-two percent believe Trump is likely to have nothing to do with his businesses while he is president, while 51 percent say it is unlikely he will ignore them.
  • Forty-seven percent say Trump should be required to sell all of his businesses to avoid any possibility of conflict of interest, while 39 percent say he should not be required to sell them and 14 percent are not sure.
  • Among Democrats, 61 percent say he must sell all of his businesses, while 75 percent of Republicans say he should not be required to do so.
  • Sixty percent of voters are concerned that Trump's business interests will influence his decisions during his presidency, including 44 percent who are very concerned, while 38 percent say they are not worried about this.

The survey of 1,000 likely voters was conducted on Dec. 8 and 11 by Rasmussen Reports. The margin of sampling error is +/- 3 percentage points with a 95 percent level of confidence.
