Trump to Hannity: SCOTUS Pick 'Pretty Much' Decided

Fox News' "Hannity"

President Donald Trump's choice for his ballyhooed Supreme Court nomination is all but made, he tells Fox News' Sean Hannity.

"I have made my decision pretty much in my mind, yes," Trump tells "Hannity" in an interview to set air Thursday at 10 p.m. ET. "Now, it's subject to change at the last moment, but I think this will be a great choice."

The official SCOTUS announcement will come Feb. 2.

An adviser to President Trump, Federalist Society executive vice president Leonard Leo, told Fox News on Wednesday the list of the president's 21 candidates "can change day to day," but President Trump said the pick he has in mind is "pretty much" set on his list of 21.

Leo had outlined three top choices — Judge Neil Gorsuch in Colorado, Judge Thomas Hardiman in Pennsylvania and Judge William Pryor in Alabama — which sources told Fox News had met with President Trump earlier this month.

"There's a hope that if the president nominates someone who is extraordinarily talented, strong intellectually, and is in the mainstream of legal thought — and all of these people we're talking about are — that while there will be lots of debate and some disagreement, the Senate ultimately will confirm the nominee without a high degree of obstruction," Leo said.

President Trump told Hannity he would want Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell, R-Ky., to invoke the "nuclear option" — which requires just a simple majority instead of 60 of the 100 Senate votes — if the Democratic opposition holds up the SCOTUS confirmation.

"I would," President Trump said. "We have obstructionists."
