President Donald Trump on Thursday blamed Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer, D-N.Y., and his fellow Democrats for “being weak and passive with Iran.”
“Schumer and the Democrats are big fans of being weak and passive with Iran,” Trump tweeted Thursday morning. “They have no clue as to the danger they would be inflicting on our Country. Iran is in financial chaos now because of the sanctions and Iran Deal termination. Dems put us in a bad place - but now good!”
Politico notes that Schumer, who initially opposed the 2015 nuclear agreement the U.S. entered into with Iran, did not respond to a request for comment.
The Trump administration said earlier this week that although Iran hasn’t begun moving towards making nuclear weapons, it has “publicly threatened to push the boundaries” of the agreement if they don’t receive any benefit from it, according to Director of National Intelligence Dan Coats.
Trump himself disputed this statement on Wednesday, telling U.S. intelligence officials to “go back to school,” in a tweet.
