President Donald Trump on Thursday went straight to the voice of expertise when it comes to law enforcement, tweeting out Rush Limbaugh's take decrying Rep. Trey Gowdy's assertions from a day before.
Gowdy on Wednesday said the FBI acted properly after he had reviewed Department of Justice documents detailing the agency's activity in Trump's presidential campaign.
For Trump, who agreed wholeheartedly with Gowdy's other assessment that Attorney General Jeff Sessions should have informed Trump about his intention to recuse from the Russia investigation much sooner, that was a bridge too far.
As it was for Limbaugh, during his Wednesday show.
"Look, folks, the Trey Gowdy situation. I don't mind admitting this bothers me greatly," Limbaugh said.
"If the FBI was so concerned, and if they weren't targeting Trump, they should have told Trump! If they're really concerned about the Russians infiltrating a campaign, then why not try to stop it? Why not tell Trump? Well, the answer's perfectly clear, to me. They were running this whole story!" Limbaugh said Wednesday.
"They were pushing this scam! If they're concerned with the Russians infiltrating the Trump campaign, with everything they knew … don't forget, the FBI knew that the Hillary campaign had paid for that dossier! …
"If after all of that, they still think the Russians actually have infiltrated, then why not put a similar spy in the Hillary campaign? Because, look, everybody thought Hillary was gonna win. At this stage and up to election night, everybody thought Hillary was gonna win," Rush said.
