Real estate mogul and GOP front-runner Donald Trump is leading the crowded Republican field by an ever-growing margin, one that's now at 28 percent approval, according a new Quinnipiac University poll.

Improving on a July 30 Quinnipiac poll, which showed a 20 percent approval rating, "The Donald" has managed to receive the highest tally and widest margin of any Republican candidate so far in this presidential contest.

"Donald Trump soars; Ben Carson rises; Jeb Bush slips and some GOP hopefuls seem to disappear," said Tim Malloy, assistant director of the Quinnipiac University poll. "Trump proves you don’t have to be loved by everyone, just by enough Republicans to lead the GOP pack."

Despite Trump's huge lead in the polls, 26 percent of Republican voters have placed him on the "no way" list. And, when it comes to honesty and trustworthiness, Quinnipiac notes that Trump and Clinton get the worst scores from voters.

From Aug. 20-25, Quinnipiac University surveyed 1,563 registered voters nationwide, and the poll has a margin of error of plus or minus 2.5 percentage points. The survey includes 666 Republicans with a margin of error of plus or minus 3.8 percentage points, and 647 Democrats with a margin of error of plus or minus 3.9 percentage points.
