President Donald Trump has not reached out to the family of the victim who died last Saturday in Charlottesville, Va., when a driver plowed into a line of cars, pushing into pedestrians.

"No, I'll be reaching out. I'll be reaching out," Trump said when asked about it at a press conference Tuesday at Trump Tower in New York City.

Asked by the same reporter when he would be reaching out, the president said:

"I was very — I thought that the statement put out, the mother's statement, I thought was a beautiful statement," he said of Susan Bro's statement to NBC News on Monday where she thanked Trump for "denouncing those who promoted violence and hatred."

"I must tell you, I was – it was something that I really appreciated," Trump said. "I thought it was terrific, and really under the – under the kind of stress that she's under and the heartache that she's under, I thought putting out that statement to me was really something I won't forget."

Bro's 32-year-old daughter Heather Heyer died after James Fields allegedly rammed his car into a sedan, which hit a minivan into a crowd of pedestrians. The events unfolded under a backdrop of violence when white nationalists clashed with counter-protesters.
