President-elect Donald Trump has chosen Fox News analyst K.T. McFarland as his deputy national security adviser, The New York Times reports.

Trump offered McFarland the job and she has accepted the high-profile position in his administration. She is the third woman picked for top spots in Trump's administration.

McFarland would serve under retired Lt. Gen. Michael Flynn, Trump's national security advisor.

McFarland has worked in the administrations of Presidents Richard Nixon, Gerald Ford, and Ronald Reagan in various roles. She currently works as a national security analyst for Fox News.

Earlier this week, South Carolina Gov. Nikki Haley was selected  as the U.S. ambassador to the United Nations. Charter school advocate Betsy DeVos was chosen as secretary of the Department of Education.

Another woman, Kellyanne Conway, Trump's campaign manager who is now a senior adviser on his transition team, also has been offered a job in the administration, but she has yet to accept it.

McFarland ran as a Republican for the New York Senate seat held by Hillary Clinton in the 2006 election, but lost in the primary to John Spencer, a former Yonkers mayor.
