A massive $1 billion fundraising effort to support presumptive GOP presidential nominee Donald Trump and the Republican National Committee is reportedly underway.

The first events in the drive kicks off in Los Angeles, with investor Thomas Barrack Jr., who's done business with the real estate billionaire in the 1980s, hosting a dinner fundraiser May 25, according to the Washington Post.

Meanwhile, the Trump campaign is finalizing plans with the RNC to participate in a joint "victory fund" committee that'll be legally able to accept large donations, the Post reports. It'll be headed by a group of party donors, including Ray Washburne, a former RNC finance chairman.

The effort to raise $1 billion may be difficult given reservations quietly expressed by some GOP bundlers with Trump — anxiety so intense some don't want to be publicly tied to the effort though they're willing to "send over a list of the donors they know," the Post reports.

In 2012, GOP presidential nominee Mitt Romney raised nearly $500 million through a joint fundraising agreement with the three national Republican Party committees and four state parties.

Because of all the committees involved, an individual donor could give nearly $135,000 in the Romney drive, but that limit is expected to be much higher with the Trump victory fund, the Post reports.
