President Donald Trump blasted the “fake news media” and denied that departing White House counsel Don McGahn was pushed out.

“Ivanka Trump & Jared Kushner had NOTHING to do with the so called 'pushing out' of Don McGahn,” Trump tweeted on Thursday. “The Fake News Media has it, purposely, so wrong! They love to portray chaos in the White House when they know that chaos doesn’t exist-just a ‘smooth running machine’ with changing parts!”

He added later that "[t]he Rigged Russia Witch Hunt did not come into play, even a little bit, with respect to my decision on Don McGahn!"

Trump had announced on Wednesday that McGahn would be stepping down in the fall.

The Washington Post had noted the announcement came as Trump’s daughter, Ivanka, and son-in-law Jared Kushner have seen their relationship with McGahn deteriorate. One Trump aide said their relationship with McGahn “never clicked.”
