President Donald Trump Saturday congratulated his former chief strategist Steve Bannon on Twitter for his return to Breitbart News, saying he'll be a "tough and new voice" with his return as executive chairman of the conservative website.

Bannon returned to Breitbart hours after leaving the White House, in time to conduct the website's evening editorial meeting, and was hailed by Editor-in-Chief Alex Marlow.

"The populist-nationalist movement got a lot stronger today," Marlow said Friday. "Breitbart gained an executive chairman with his finger on the pulse of the Trump agenda."

Bannon himself told The Weekly Standard Friday that he considers the presidency he and supporters fought for to be "over."

"We still have a huge movement, and we will make something of this Trump presidency," Bannon said. "But, that presidency is over. It'll be something else. And there'll be all kinds of fights, and there'll be good days and bad days, but that presidency is over."
