President Donald Trump Tuesday dismissed former White House communications aide Cliff Sims as a "low-level staffer" while the author of a new tell-all book about his time at the White House was appearing on morning television to promote his work.
"A low level staffer that I hardly knew named Cliff Sims wrote yet another boring book based on made up stories and fiction," Trump tweeted. "He pretended to be an insider when in fact he was nothing more than a gofer. He signed a non-disclosure agreement. He is a mess!"
Sims, who was on CNN's "New Day" to promote his book "Team of Vipers: My 500 Extraordinary Days in the Trump White House" when Trump posted his tweet, said he wasn't surprised by the slam, and that his identity is "wrapped up" in who he is in his faith, not having been a Trump staffer.
He also appeared on MSNBC's "Morning Joe," where he commented that one of his biggest regrets from his year-and-a-half in the White House was that he helped ex-Press Secretary Sean Spicer sell claims that Trump's inauguration crowd had been the largest in history.
"The first piece of work I put my hands to was a debacle," said Sims.
He also said he never felt like he was asked directly to lie, and he defended Press Secretary Sarah Sanders as a "very good person" who does a "good job," but she goes out to speak without having all the facts, only later to learn her comments were not correct.
