Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer, D-N.Y., on Twitter Saturday slammed President Donald Trump for his recent actions on healthcare, Iran and Puerto Rico, saying the president was failing to lead and throwing "destructive bones to his base" while telling Congress to fix things.

Trump on Friday announced he would decertify the 2015 Iran nuclear deal and kicked a decision over to Congress on whether to restore sanctions. The day before, the president said he was cutting off critical payments to health insurance companies just hours after he ordered sweeping changes in the nation's insurance system, including sales of cheaper policies with fewer benefits.

"If the Democrats were smart, what they'd do is come and negotiate something where people could really get the kind of health care that they deserve," Trump told reporters.

Trump on Thursday also gave notice to hurricane-ravaged Puerto Rico, warning on Twitter that the government's efforts there can't go on "forever" and that it would be up to Congress how much federal money to appropriate to the island for its recovery.

He backtracked from those statements Friday, telling a group of Christian conservatives, "we'll be there."

Schumer on Friday questioned why Trump continues to "treat Puerto Ricans differently" than other Americans hit by natural disasters.
