The United States finally has a "business-savvy president" not afraid to tackle massive trade imbalances with China, political analyst Adriana Cohen says.
"Prior administrations have allowed the Chinese to steal our intellectual property with just a slap on the wrist," Cohen writes in a column published in Thursday’s Boston Herald.
"Our Disruptor-in-Chief promised on the campaign trail he’d withdraw from bad trade deals like TPP, renegotiate NAFTA and level the playing field between the U.S. and China once and for all."
She said Trump made good on that promise Tuesday by releasing a list of products imported from China it will hit with 25 percent tariffs — nearly $50 billion worth of imports.
"Until this pans out, Americans should brace for some short-term pain on its path to long-term economic growth. If anyone can fix this trade mess, it’s Trump," Cohen writes.
