Trump Blasts Russia 'Witch Hunt'

Trump Blasts Russia 'Witch Hunt'

Wednesday, 31 May 2017 07:51 AM EDT

President Donald Trump took to Twitter on Wednesday to blast the investigation into ties between his campaign and Russia, a day after a former aide sent a letter to the House Intelligence Committee asking to testify.

In the second letter he has sent to the committee, Carter Page wrote that he "might not be afforded the opportunity to address the false or misleading testimony by James Comey, John Brennan, et al. as per our previously scheduled appointment for next week."

That got the president riled up early Wednesday.

Page has viewed the possibility of testifying as an opportunity to expose what he calls the illegal Foreign Intelligence Surveillance Act (FISA) warrants to monitor his personal communications.

"When the falsified FISA warrants against me are eventually revealed, the extent of illegal false evidence will show that there was never any probable cause, but rather vindictive personal attacks used to justify the Clinton-Obama-Comey regime's domestic political intelligence operation," Page told Breitbart.

Page pressed his case to testify in the letter to the committee.

"In light of the apparent disregard for truthful information at the foundation of the FBI's related investigations last year, it has grown more important than ever that I be afforded the opportunity to explain the truth," he wrote. "In particular, regarding all of the associated nonsensical lies stated specifically against me during the recent testimony by various senior Obama administration appointees. For this reason, I hope that my future testimony might be allowed."
