President Donald Trump's campaign has spent $1.1 million in legal fees in the past three months, almost twice what the campaign spent in the preceding three months, The New York Times reports.

According to filings to the Federal Election Commission, Trump's campaign and joint committee with the GOP, $800,000 of that $1.1 million went to the law firm Jones Day, while $238,000 went to the offices of Alan S. Futerfas, an attorney representing Trump's son, Donald Trump, Jr. The Trump campaign, Jones Day and Futerfas did not respond to the Times' request for comment.

Although a letter circulated in May, and since obtained by the Times, implied that Jones Day "will be responsible for collecting, reviewing and, if appropriate, producing materials to the congressional committees and the special counsel" investigating Russian election interference. However, the firm also represents the campaign in litigation related to the election, and the legal payments to the firm may not be solely for their work on the Russia probe.
