Trump Campaign Rages Against Establishment's 'Idiotic Attacks'

By    |   Monday, 04 April 2016 02:21 PM EDT

Donald Trump's presidential campaign circulated a private memo detailing its anger with the media and the "Washington Establishment," reports The Washington Post.

"It's been a very hard time," said Barry Bennett, Trump campaign's senior adviser, according to the Post.

In the memo, Bennett addressed the media calling recent events in Trump's campaign "the worst week ever," and pointed to a Reuters poll that showed Trump gaining support while Texas Sen. Ted Cruz and Ohio Gov. John Kasich declined.

"DC Pundits scurried to the networks" to discuss whether Trump's campaign was in decline, said the memo.

Bennett called it "yet another pathetic display" and said the "idiotic attacks just remind voters why they hate the Washington Establishment."

In his interview with the Post, Bennett said negative comments about the Trump campaign are "the narrative that the Republican establishment is setting."

"We can't let that influence how we see ourselves," he added.

"The institutional limits of Trump's insurgency are becoming clear," said columnist Ross Douthat in The New York Times. "Better late than never."

Trump himself refuted the idea that he was having "the worst week ever" in an appearance on CBS' "Face the Nation," by saying, "We've had many bad weeks and we've had many good weeks. I don't see it as the worst week in my campaign."

The memo concluded with the message: "Donald Trump 1. Washington Establishment/Media 0."
