The adviser who steered President Barack Obama's transition in 2008 said critics of President-elect Donald Trump's transition to the office were not giving Trump's team a fair shake.

He said he also moved slowly when working on Obama's transition.

The Washington Examiner reported transition staff was putting together groups to work with federal agencies to prepare for the incoming administration.

Trump has made two appointments — chief of staff Reince Priebus and chief strategist Steve Bannon — but has been holding dozens of meetings daily with potential appointees to key posts, The Examiner reported.

Reports of infighting on the team had surfaced, but Trump said that story was "typically false."

Politico reported Trump's campaign manager Kellyanne Conway was confident in the team's progress.

"We feel way ahead of schedule," she said.
