A private memo drafted by Donald Trump’s transition team says the president-elect will begin retooling America's trade policy on his first day on office.

The note, obtained by CNN, states it is for "discussion purposes only," and zeroes in on trade:

"The Trump trade plan breaks with the globalist wings of both the Republican and Democratic parties. The Trump administration will reverse decades of conciliatory trade policy. New trade agreements will be negotiated that provide for the interests of US workers and companies first."

According to CNN, the document discusses renegotiating or withdrawing from the North American Free Trade Agreement — a Trump campaign promise.

In addition, the memo mentions stopping the Trans-Pacific Partnership deal, halting stopping "unfair imports" ending "unfair trade practices," seeking pursuing bilateral trade deals and boosting the number of manufacturing jobs.

The note does admit there could be consequences to withdrawing from NAFTA, but they could be lessened with bilateral trade agreements with Canada and Mexico.
