If President Donald Trump exits the Paris climate agreement, it would be a "traitorous act of war," according to billionaire philanthropist Tom Steyer in a tweet.
On Wednesday, Steyer posted several more tweets on his opinion about the value of staying in the international agreement to combat climate change:
Steyer supports renewable energy, favoring an agenda that would move the U.S. toward 100-percent renewable energy over 25 years, according to the Washington Examiner.
The philanthropist, back in 2016, slammed the idea that Trump might exit from the Paris accord. Doing so would be like taking the U.S. world leadership and "throwing it out the window," Steyer said in November 2016.
Economists have said that pulling out of the agreement would create job losses as well as job gains in the U.S., "with the result being roughly a wash," said Cary Coglianese, University of Pennsylvania professor.
