Despite President Donald Trump's claim former President Barack Obama wiretapped Trump Tower during the campaign, there has been no credible evidence presented to the Senate Intelligence Committee, Sen. Tom Cotton, R-Ark., says Sunday, according to Politico.
"I've seen no evidence of the allegations we've seen in the media — whether that's a potential application or denial of the application, or a submission of the application or surveillance," Cotton, an intelligence committee member, reportedly tells "Fox News Sunday" with Chris Wallace, which will air at 2 p.m.
"It doesn't mean that none of these things have happened, just means I haven't seen them yet. I would not want to speculate about media reports based on anonymous sources.
"I would prefer to deal with facts."
President Trump, responding to attacks on his administration's alleged ties and contact with Russia during the election, engaged in a tweetstorm Saturday, alleging improprieties of the Obama administration.
Wallace reportedly asks Cotton on Sunday if the "Obama administration abused its executive role."
"We are going to review allegations of any kind of improper contacts between Russian officials and campaign officials or other American citizens; I'm sure that we will be reviewing any allegations such as this," Cotton tells Wallace.
White House press secretary Sean Spicer tweeted the following statement Sunday morning:
"Reports concerning potentially politically motivated investigations immediately ahead of the 2016 election are very troubling," a series of four tweets stated. "President Trump is requesting that as part of their investigation into Russian activity, the congressional intelligence committees exercise their oversight authority to determine whether executive branch investigative powers were abused in 2016.
"Neither the White House nor the President will comment further until such oversight is conducted."
