Barrack: Trump a 'Revolutionary' Who 'Manages by Conflict'

A longtime friend of President Donald Trump and fellow businessman insisted Thursday the commander-in-chief is doing the job Americans sent him to Washington to do: Dislodge the political status quo.

"The President is disintermediating the establishment," Tom Barrack said on CNN's "The Situation Room."

"That's what he was sent there to do. He's a revolutionary and warrior of sorts."

And though news reports have been consumed with the Trump administration's response to a hurricane in Puerto Rico, the president's attacks of the network news outlets, and apparent disharmony between the president and his secretary of state, Rex Tillerson, Barack said Trump remains focused on what he needs to do.

"The president is so far above worrying about words," he said, adding: "Today you have the best adults in the sandbox you've ever had at the White House."

Barack said Trump "has managed his whole life, for the 40 years that I've known him" in being successful at "everything."

"But he manages by conflict," Barrack said. "What the president always did is curate points of view."

"He had a whole series of people around him who had different points of view," he said of the early and rapid turnover in his administration.

"As time has gone on, they matriculated into different places."

"You move from campaign to candidate to transition to governing and it's different toolkits, and those warriors need different bows and arrows to utilize, and that's the natural progression of things," he continued.
