Billionaire environmentalist Tom Steyer has seen the Democratic Party form positions on climate and energy over the past four years that are close to his views, which is evident this week at the party's presidential convention.
Steyer praised the party during several interviews in Philadelphia this week.
"If you look at 2016 and the platform that we've agreed on, it is a quantum leap forward from four years ago," Steyer, the CEO of NextGen Climate, told Bloomberg
earlier this week. "I think we have the most progressive environmental platform in the history of the Democratic Party and in the history of American politics."
On Thursday, Steyer said the party has come a long way in the four years he's been donating to political campaigns.
"I think the first thing you have to think about with the 2016 platform is where it stands relative to where we've been," Steyer said Thursday morning, reports the Washington Free Beacon
. "If you'll remember, which is pretty hard to think of now, in 2012 the Democratic platform was based on 'all of the above' energy sources and clean coal."
Steyer made a fortune in the financial industry, but since 2013 he has donated more than $100 million to left-leaning political groups and candidates, reports the Free Beacon.
Steyer is currently in the midst of a $25 million effort
to encourage young voters to show up at polling places in November.
