Former GOP governor of Minnesota Tim Pawlenty says he's no longer politically active when asked if he was considering a run to replace Sen. Al Franken, D-Minn., in the Senate.

"I'm politically retired, and if that changes, you'll be among the first to know," Pawlenty told CNN's "New Day" anchor Chris Cuomo on Tuesday.

Franken announced he would resign, but has not yet said when, as sexual misconduct allegations against him have surfaced.

Pawlenty said he believed Franken resigning was the correct choice.

"I think it would be odd if he didn't now. Everybody is assuming that he's going to. It'd be quite a dramatic development if he changed his mind," Pawlenty said.

Pawlenty served two terms as Minnesota governor before leaving the office in 2011 to run for the Republican presidential nomination. Now he is president and CEO of the Financial Services Roundtable, a lobbying organization, according to The Hill.
