Democratic vice presidential nominee Tim Kaine introduced himself to Americans in an acceptance speech at the Democratic National Convention Wednesday night, mainly attacking Republican presidential nominee Donald Trump.

In a speech that started out essentially the same as his introduction over the weekend with Democratic presidential nominee Hillary Clinton in which he talked about his family and drifted in and out of Spanish.

Touting, "fe, familia y trabajo – faith, family and work," Kaine noted that his father-in-law, former Virginia Gov. Linwood Holton, is still a Republican in his 90s, but is voting more and more for Democrats.

"He's voting for Democrats because any party that would nominate Donald Trump for president has moved too far away from his Party of Lincoln," he said. "And I tell you, if any of you are looking for that Party of Lincoln, we've got a home for you right here in the Democratic Party!"

Trump, Kaine said, "is a guy who promises a lot, but you might have noticed, he's got a way of saying the same two words every time he makes his biggest, hugest, promises. Believe me. It's going to be great. Believe me. We're going to build a wall and make Mexico pay for it. Believe me. We're going to destroy ISIS so fast. Believe me. There's nothing suspicious in my tax returns. Believe me."

Kaine said contractors left with pennies on the dollar after Trump's multiple bankruptcies believed him, as did charities he promised money and students at Trump University, which is the subject of more than one lawsuit.

"They got stiffed."

Though it was a mostly low-key speech, Kaine did have the crowd chanting when he asked them if they believed Trump.

"Not one word! Not one word!" the crowd shouted back.
