President Donald Trump has tasked Secretary of State Rex Tillerson with repairing America's relationship with Russia, Fox News reported.
"He's been quite clear with me to proceed at whatever pace and in the areas I think we might make progress," Tillerson said from Wellington, New Zealand. "I really am not involved in any of these other issues."
The latter part of Tillerson's quote was in reference to the FBI's Russia investigation and the status of that.
Tillerson was the CEO of Exxon Mobil before he joined the Trump administration and has had business dealings with Russia. Things were a bit rocky between him and America's Cold War foe earlier this year, however, over how each country was handling the situation in Syria.
Now it seems that Tillerson is trying to patch things up with Russia amid a flurry of reports that Trump's campaign may have had an improper relationship with the Russians.
Former FBI director James Comey will testify on Capitol Hill on Thursday, and there's been speculation that he might accuse Trump of trying to squash the bureau's Russia probe.
