Rep. John Culberson ripped top Democratic leader Chuck Schumer on Friday for headlining a Democratic fundraiser in Houston this weekend after stalling an $81 billion disaster-relief bill for Texas and other states hit by hurricanes and wildfires.

"I hear he's in Houston this weekend," Texas Republican Rep. John Culberson, who is facing re-election, told a local civic group, The Texas Tribune reports.

"I hope when Schumer comes to Houston on Saturday he will come out to visit neighborhoods that have suffered," he said.

Schumer, the New York Democrat who is Senate Minority Leader, will be in Harvey-ravaged Houston to raise money for several party incumbents and candidates.

They include Texas Rep. Beto O'Rourke, who is seeking to unseat Republican Sen. Ted Cruz, the Tribune reports.

House Republicans passed the disaster bill in December, but Schumer said the funding would be discussed in the New Year as Democrats evaluated its priorities.

"The House has already done our job," Culberson said, noting that he backed $50 billion in relief for Superstorm Sandy for the New York-New Jersey region in 2015.

"I’m the Texas Republican who voted for the Hurricane Sandy relief bill because I knew we'd be in the same position someday," he said, according to the Tribune.

"Just as I was there for his constituents when Sandy hit, I hope he’ll be there for Texans."

Schumer could not be reached for comment for the Tribune's report.
