Rep. Ted Lieu, D-Calif., is calling for Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell, R-Ky., to bring the Senate back into session for the impeachment trial of President Donald Trump.
"We're calling on Mitch McConnell to have the trial as soon as possible," Lieu said Thursday morning.
He made his comments during an interview on MSNBC's "Morning Joe." Lieu will serve as an impeachment manager during the trial, according to Newsweek.
"And what is the Senate doing that is so important and so urgent right now? Nothing," he said. "They're at home. They could have a trial on Friday. They could have it next Monday. So we're calling for Sen. McConnell to bring the Senate in so we can have the trial."
President-elect Joe Biden has indicated he’s looking past Trump’s impeachment.
In a tweet posted after the House voted to impeach Trump on Wednesday, he said: "Now, the process continues to the Senate — and I hope they'll deal with their Constitutional responsibilities on impeachment while also working on the other urgent business of this nation."
