Sen. Ted Cruz revealed Friday he has no interest in pursuing a seat on the U.S. Supreme Court.
The Texas Republican, who ended his quest to become the Republican presidential nominee earlier this month, told host Chris Salcedo on
News Talk Radio WBAP in Dallas:
"I'll tell you, that is not a desire of my heart. I have had several opportunities in the past to go to the bench, and I certainly deeply respect the job the justices do. But I think our country is in crisis.
"And I think we need a strong conservative president who will appoint not just one, but two, three, four, five Supreme Court justices who are principled constitutionalists … I believe that I can do a great more good fighting across the political spectrum."
Cruz recently quashed speculation that he'll seek the presidency again 2020 by revealing he plans to seek
another term in the Senate in 2018.
Cruz's adieu to the presidential contest leaves Donald Trump as the GOP's presumptive nominee.
