Sens. Cruz, Feinstein Team Up to Tackle Migrant Crisis

Conservative Sen. Ted Cruz is teaming up with liberal Sen. Dianne Feinstein on a fix to the separation of migrant families at the border, Politico reports.

Given that the "strange bedfellows" couldn't be farther apart on the issue of immigration and what to do with the hundreds of thousands of "Dreamers" currently in the country, if anyone can achieve bipartisan compromise on the family separations, it could be these two, lawmakers told Politico.

“This is a problem that everyone, no matter what end of the political spectrum you are on, believes needs to be fixed. Ultimately, it makes strange bedfellows,” Politico quoted Democratic Sen. Heidi Heitkamp. “I think that Sen. Cruz is interested in getting this issue solved.”

"She certainly has expressed a strong and, I hope, sincere interest,” Cruz said about Feinstein. "So we’re working together on legislation that both conferences can support."

The key for the unlikely duo, who were at each other's throats just a few years ago, will be limiting the scope of legislation that could pass in the Senate and, more acutely, the House.

“There will always be issues on which the two parties have real and significant differences," Politico quoted Cruz. "Eeryone agrees the best place for children is with their parents. So there should be a bipartisan solution."
