No matter who wins the Republican primary for a U.S. Senate seat from Utah, one thing is certain: The tea party movement will be able to claim victory.
Both candidates in the primary, Tim Bridgewater and Mike Lee, have tea party backing and preach the movement’s mantra of lower government spending and taxation, the Wall Street Journal reports.
The two are vying for the seat held by Bob Bennett, who finished third in the balloting at the Utah Republican Convention in May.
A recent poll by the Deseret News shows businessman Bridgewater leading Lee, an attorney, by 42 percent to 33 percent.
