More than 60 percent of Americans don't believe Capitol Hill Republicans or President Donald Trump ever intended to strike a bipartisan tax reform bill with Democrats, according to the latest CNN poll.

  • 63 percent say GOP did not make a good faith effort to work with Dems.

Further, 55 percent oppose the tax reform legislation that passed early Wednesday by the Senate, while 33 percent favor it, according to CNN's results.

Those surveyed continued the trend of believing that the tax reform legislation will mostly benefit the wealthy, 66 percent to 27 percent who think it mostly benefits the middle class.

The study was conducted for CNN via telephone by SSRS, an independent research company. Interviews were conducted from Dec. 14-17 among a sample of 1,001 respondents. The margin of sampling error for total respondents is 3.6 percentage points at the 95 percent confidence level.

Among the entire sample, 33 percent described themselves as Democrats, 23 percent described themselves as Republicans, and 44 percent described themselves as independents or members of another party.
