The far left or the far right always drive political debate, but leadership should come from somewhere in between, according to Sen. Susan Collins, R-Maine.

Collins and Sen. Joe Manchin, D-W. Va., explained their push for bipartisanship through the group No Labels.

"I am convinced that most Americans want us to work together, and yet the debate in Washington is too often hyper-partisan, and driven by the ideological groups on the far left and the far right, rather than the sensible center," Collins said Thursday on CNN's "New Day."

"Our hope is that with the support of members of No Labels all across our county, that we can begin a process of bringing people together in Washington to listen respectfully to one another, and forge bipartisan solutions. When legislation is passed with input from both parties, we get far better products in the end," Collins said.

"The only group I found that was willing to look for the middle, to try to find the pathway forward, and find the solutions for the challenges and problems we had, was No Labels. It was Democrats and Republicans, it was CEOs, it was rank and file people that are just interested in their country, and it has grown and grown," Manchin said on "New Day."

"I have worked across the aisle since the day I arrived in the Senate, and that approach has never been more important than it is now," Manchin said in the No Labels announcement.

"When we understand each other, we can work together. And when we work together, we can help people," Manchin said in the announcement.

The group plans to work with the Problem Solvers Caucus, a bipartisan group in the House of Representatives, according to the No Labels statement.
